BBC Entertainment is delighted to announce ground breaking comedian David Kau as host of the channel’s Tuesday Comedy Night programming starting 5th April. A new fixture in the BBC Entertainment schedule, Tuesday Comedy Night showcases the best of British comedy each week from 20.30.
Kicking off on the 5th April with the one-off premiere Jack Dee: Live at the Palladium, the line up each Tuesday night continues from the 12th April at 20.30 with a new series of stand-up showcase Live at the Apollo, featuring the biggest names in British comedy such as Michael McIntyre, Rob Brydon, Gina Yashere and Rhod Gilbert. Following on at 21.25 is a new third series of the sitcom Grownups starring Sheridan Smith (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) and Warren Brown (Luther, Occupation) David will write and film an introduction to the programmes, giving his own take on the acts as well as appearing in a number of bespoke promotional trails for the Tuesday Comedy Night. These will begin to air on BBC Entertainment three weeks before the programmes broadcast. Commenting on his role as host, David said: “quote to follow?”
One of South Africa’s most sought after comedians, David’s name is synonymous with many firsts. In 1998, the Kroonstad born, award winning comic began his career as the first black stand-up comedian, in a lineup of 44 acts, to perform in the Smirnoff Comedy Festival in Cape Town. Since then, David has taken the South African comedy circuit by storm both as a live performer and on television. Having appeared on the The Phat Joe Show, David then joined forces with university friend Kagiso Lediga to create The Pure Monate Show first broadcast in 2004. Most recently, television audiences will know David as the head judge of So You Think You’re Funny.
Recognising the lack of space for black comedians to showcase their work in their own languages, in 2005 David created the Blacks Only comedy shows which are now in their sixth year. His Christmas show, David Kau’s Annual Christmas Party, has become a must-see fixture in the stand-up calendar and continues to go from strength to strength.
Off-stage, David has set-up his own NPO, 111 Kau Foundation, set up to put children in his hometown of Kroonstad through school as well as providing food and clothes for children at the Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng orphanage in Midrand. David is also proud to be a 46664 It’s No Joke ambassador.
Join David for top comedy talent from 5th April at 20.30 on BBC Entertainment – the best seat’s in your house.
