AFRIFORUM: ARE GAYS, AFRICAN AMERICANS WELCOME TOO?

AfriForum Youth is a civil rights organization. We are campaigning for mother tongue education and the exemption of the youth from affirmative action.”

So says AfriForum’s Youth wing. AfriForum calls itself a civil rights movement that looks after the rights of minorities in what it calls the face of an ever-growing government hostility against minorities. Basically, from what I understand, AfriForum is a bigger Democratic Alliance.

Earlier today my friends and I had a very hearty laugh when AfriForum told radio 702 that they are in New York City at the United Nations in part, to try and connect with other minorities from around the world. I then asked myself this question: since they are already in the US, will they contact people like Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? After all, these two gents are leaders of a minority black people in America. Has AfriForum contacted them, asked them for help, or appealed to their sense of minority, in order to advance its programme in Mzansi?

And by extension, has AfriForum called the gay communities, the Muslim people and other minorities found in the country? I have certainly not heard them speak on behalf of these citizens, nor on behalf of any other minority except for certain white people.

AfriForum is also affiliated to Solidarity, a so-called union which also represents the interests of a minority of people. Not that minorities don’t deserve to be represented, not at all. However, let one not disguise one’s true intentions with the nobility attached to representing a minority of people. Worse still, Infinity, a rewards programme which I thought was for all South Africans, is a staunch backer of AfriForum.

I guess if it ever happens that “minorities” become majorities, AfriForum will cease to have a reason to exist.
